Managed PKI for SSL Enrollment Guide

This help topic describes the information that you need to enroll for the Managed PKI for SSL service and when to expect activation of your service.

Organization Information
In the Organization field, type the primary organization affiliation for this Managed PKI for SSL account. This becomes the initial organization available to your certificate subscribers.The contacts that you provide for this organization receive communications about this account. Organizational Unit is optional. If your organization issues certificates across multiple departments or groups, enter a name that can easily identify the department or group. This becomes the initial organizational unit available to your certificate subscribers.

Organizational Contact
The person in your organization who is responsible for your Symantec Managed PKI for SSL account and is authorized to accept the Managed PKI for SSL Agreement with Symantec on behalf of your organization. Unless otherwise noted, all information is required for Organizational Contact information.

  • First and Last Name
  • Title - The official title or position for the contact.
  • Address, City, State/Province, ZIP/Postal Code, Country - The physical location of the contact.
  • Telephone Number - The direct telephone number where the contact can be reached. Include the area code.
  • Fax - Optional.
  • Email - This email address where the contact can be reached.

Managed PKI Administrator
The Managed PKI administrator authenticates, approves, and rejects certificate requests, and manages and revokes issued certificates. Enter the first administrator's information for this account. You can add administrators later. Unless otherwise noted, all information is required.

  • First and Last Name
  • Title - The official title or position held by the Managed PKI administrator.
  • Email - This cannot be a free email address, such as Yahoo! or Hotmail.
  • Telephone Number - The direct telephone number for the administrator. Include the area code.

Challenge Phrase
Enter a new challenge phrase. This is a password that you are prompted to type when you pick up, manage, and renew your Administrator ID. Store this password in a safe place.

Domain Names
Enter the initial domain name you want to issue certificates for. Your organization must be the registered owner of this domain name. Only the top-level domain name is required. For example, if you type mycompany.com, your Managed PKI for SSL account can issue certificates for www.mycompany.com, secure.mycompany.com, and secure.sales.mycompany.com.

Intranet SSL Certificate Domain Names In addition to fully qualified domain names, Intranet SSL Certificates also support host names and internal IP addresses as a certificate common name (the specific domain assigned to an SSL Certificate). Intranet SSL IDs support the following as a common name:

  • Fully qualified (internal) domain name. For example: hr.bizybank.com or engineering.123.com
  • Internal host name. For example: websvr1 or home
  • Internal IP address. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the following three blocks of the IP address space for private networks:
    • 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
    • 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
    • 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)

* Note: Symantec Intranet SSL certificates secure communications across your intranet or private network only. Do not not use them on servers or other devices that are accessible from the Internet (that are publicly facing).

Prepaid Administrative Units
Enter the number of additional administrator IDs and domain names you need for your Managed PKI for SSL account. Your account initially includes two Administrator ID and one domain name. You can purchase additional Administrator ID and domain name units any time after setting up your service. You can redeem the units and buy more units after your account is approved.

Prepaid Certificate Units
Enter the number of certificate units that you want for each certificate type that you plan to issue to your subscribers. You can purchase additional units after your account is approved.

Calculate units as follows:
[Validity period] x [Number of servers protected by the certificate] = Units consumed

For example, a two-year certificate protecting 10 servers equals 20 units.

Each code signing certificate type consumes one unit per year of validity. For example, a two-year code signing certificate consumes two units.

You can purchase additional certificate units any time after setting up your service. If you are not sure how many you need, start with a smaller number and add more later as necessary.

Extended Validation (EV) Certificates
Standard and Premium Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates provide your customers with the highest level of security and trust. Web sites secured by Extended Validation SSL Certificates automatically and prominently appear as trusted in the most widely-used Web browsers.

Intranet Certificates
Standard and Premium Intranet SSL Certificates secure communications across your intranet or private network only. Intranet SSL Certificates are not for use on servers or other devices that are accessible from the Internet (that are publicly facing).

OFX Certificates
OFX SSL Certificates are available only to qualified financial institutions. If you have been pre-approved to issue OFX certificates, enter the number of units you want to purchase.

Otherwise, leave the OFX field blank. Contact Symantec Customer Support if you have further questions about issuing OFX certificates.

Payment Type
Select a payment method for this transaction.

Purchase Order - To pay by purchase order, you must include:

  • The exact purchase price.
  • The description "Purchase Order" or "Purchase Commitment." Other descriptions, such as "Purchase Requisition," are not accepted.
  • Your order number.
  • Your company name.
  • Your billing address.

Fax or mail the purchase order to the contact information provided on the enrollment form.

Check - To pay by check, you must include:

  • The exact purchase price.
  • Your order number.

Mail your check to the address provided on the enrollment form.

Billing Contact
Enter contact information for the person who is responsible for payment confirmation or questions. The billing contact receives all communications regarding payment. Unless otherwise noted all of the following information is required:

  • First and Last Name.
  • Title - The official title or position of the billing contact.
  • Email - This cannot be a free email address, such as Yahoo! or Hotmail.
  • Telephone Number - The direct telephone number where the billing contact can be reached. Include the area code.

Privacy Disclosure and Managed PKI for SSL Agreements
Read the Privacy Disclosure and Managed PKI for SSL Agreements carefully. If you agree to the terms and conditions of these agreements, click Accept & Purchase to submit your information. If you do not agree to the terms and conditions, click Decline.

Once Your Order Is Submitted
Your organizational contact and Managed PKI administrator will receive email confirming the purchase. The message includes instructions and contact information related to activation of your service. Symantec immediately begins processing your order. We activate your service as soon as we receive and confirm payment information and finish our authentication procedures. After your order is approved, your Managed PKI administrator receives an email message with information about how to retrieve the Managed PKI administrator ID and access the Managed PKI Control Center. Once you are in your Control Center, you can configure your subscriber services and access help documentation.

Payment Instructions If you chose a method other than credit card, follow the instructions to ensure prompt activation of your account and delivery of your Managed PKI Administrator ID. After Symantec has verified your organization and domain information and has confirmed receipt of payment, your account will be activated.
